The Honorable Trey Gowdy, Chairman
US House of Representative Committee on the Judiciary
Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security
2138 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515
Honorable Chairman Trey Gowdy:
We write this letter to you over a great concern for an improvement of the mutual benefits between the Republic of Korea and the United States of America, through a mere enactment of the non-immigrant work visa for the Korean professionals.
Our organization represents 2.5 million Korean-Americans in USA, promoting our civic, educational, cultural, economic, and political stands. We proudly witnessed the FTA taking effect in March of 2012 between the two countries; it was the culmination of our long advocate and support. The significance of it is that Korea was the first country in the North Asian region to tie a mutually beneficial relationship, and that it shall serve a model to follow by others.
The FTA resulted in an increase of trades between the two countries; yet the professional services are trailing behind the goods in its free flow. More than any other time in the past, the international trade demands the exchange of professional workers. In this context, the “Partner with Korea Act” (HR-1812) came in quite appropriately. It will create a new visa category, allowing 15,000 Koreans to pursue the research and to contribute to the professional fields in USA. This is an encouraging move to entice the best to the US science and technology.
We are grateful for the “Partner with Korea Act (HR-1812)” sponsored by Congressmen Peter Roskam (R-IL), James Moran ( D-VA) and 30 bipartisan members, proposing a work visa to 15,000 Korean professionals. During the remaining session, you must pass this Act without a delay. A stronger relationship between the two countries depends on this Act. It will foster the front-runners in hi-tech, steel, petrochemicals, and machinery for the benefits of the two.
We respectfully urge you to vote for the enactment of the “Partner with Korea Act.” Again, we thank you for the attention to this crucial issue.
Sincerely,
Chung Soon Lee , President
The Federation of Korean Associations, U.S.A.
